Unawatuna Beach

Banana-shaped Unawatuna Beach in Galle is one of the country’s most popular and famous stretches of sand – so don’t expect to have it all to yourself. The beach is fringed by green palm trees and dotted with sun loungers to hire; snorkellers and divers are drawn here by the vibrant corals. The 2004 tsunami devastated the beach, and many resorts and hotels were rebuilt in a hurry, giving Unawatuna something of a slapdash look and feel.
