Our love affair with Sri Lanka started in 2002, when my wife and I came to Sri Lanka together and headed south for a long weekend. (We were living in Singapore at the time.) The trip was a fabulous wedding present from a dear friend who was living on the island. We stayed in some boutique colonial properties in Galle and further down the coast in Tangalle. We loved everything about Sri Lanka: the gentle pace of life, the architecture, the culture, the people, the beaches and all the nature around us.
Serendipitously, that same year, the company my wife was working for in Singapore decided to open up a small regional office in Colombo and she was asked to run the show. Both of us jumped at the prospect! I quit my job in Singapore and, by January 2003, we were living in Sri Lanka. While my wife was busy setting things up for the business in Colombo, I took off for a few days at a time to explore the various parts of the island. The more I travelled, the more I connected with Sri Lanka and the more I felt the need to tell all my friends and family how wonderful the country was. The love affair intensified and that’s how I began planning trips to Sri Lanka.
